Just as at the North Pole any time is the exact time, and the arrow shot from a bow remains motionless because it occupies a space equal to itself, a paradox proven by analog film through its 24 frames per second, this year’s edition of Media Art Festival Arad navigates very discreetly around a theme that is hard to define but easy to digress on: Chronicles of Stillness.
Organized in the concert hall of the Philharmonic in Arad, MAFA attempts - in a playful, experimental mode – to articulate a series of ideas and concepts that have been at the core of the festival since its earliest editions, such as the Gesamtkunstwerk, exploring zones of convergence between the arts, science and technology, as well as interventions in atypical, polyphonic spaces.
Media Art Festival Arad is a project organized by kinema ikon, with a focus on visual, sound, performative experimentation, considered from a ludic, technological, hybrid, digital, analogue, purposefully redundant perspective. MAFA searches for modalities of play, using available spaces as a pretext. A shared interest in art and technology brings together a heterogenous group of, mostly young, multimedia artists.
